Qualification requirements

At the time of selection and study abroad, applicants must be enrolled in a regular course at our university as an undergraduate student and meet the following conditions.
(1) Academic performance at our university must be GPA 2.25 or higher.

* Osaka Sangyo University Graduate School, international students, research students, non-degree students, etc. cannot apply.

Scholarships etc.

  1. Tuition Fees: Tuition fees are not required at the host institution, but tuition fees at our university must be paid.
  2. Scholarship: 150,000 yen/semester.
  3. Support funds will be provided by Osaka Sangyo University Society and Supporters Association (conditions apply)
  4. Self-pay: Travel expenses, overseas travel insurance, local living expenses (including student dormitory), etc.

(=Everything except tuition fees at the destination)

*If you withdraw from the university without returning to the university (or without obtaining a degree) after the study abroad period ends, or if you are expelled from the university, you will be required to return the amount equivalent to the scholarship and tuition fees at the host university.

School record

During the period of study abroad, students will remain enrolled at our university and this period will be included in their enrollment at our university. (If you wish to study abroad on a leave of absence, please consult with International Exchange Office in advance. Please note that financial support such as scholarships will not be provided if you wish to study abroad on a leave of absence.)

Credit recognition

Credits for Chinese language courses at our university (within the scope of course registration) can be certified for the courses taken at the study abroad destination.
*Not all credits earned at the place of dispatch will be recognized.

2018 Chinese Summer Overseas Training Shanghai Foreign Studies University

For about three weeks from August 5th to August 25th, I went to Shanghai and Beijing in China for overseas training.

On the morning of my departure on the 5th, I was more anxious than excited. This is because I only learned Chinese during my first year at university and only reviewed it a little before training, so I knew almost nothing about it. The reason why I applied for training in such a state was because I was recommended to do so by the teacher who gave me a Chinese class during my first year. The teacher taught me various things about China, which made me interested in China, but I don't think I would have gone there on my own without the teacher's encouragement. I would like to write about my impressions including my experiences.

We departed for Shanghai from Kansai International Airport around 1:00 pm on the 5th. It looked like most of the people on the plane were Chinese, and at least all the seats around me were filled with Chinese people. Even when the flight attendant brought me food and drinks, I could barely hear them and couldn't communicate in Chinese, so I managed to get by in 365体育官网. At that time, I was glad that I had studied 365体育官网 conversation from the bottom of my heart. However, since I was about to go to China and was only able to speak 365体育官网 on the plane, my initial anxiety became even greater.

After a two-hour flight, we landed at Shanghai Airport. I felt that Japan and China are so close. As soon as I arrived, I experienced a culture shock. Even though the plane was still traveling at a high speed on the runway, most of the Chinese people stood up, prepared to disembark, and started lining up for the exit. Thanks to this, I was able to realize that I had arrived in China before I even got off the plane. After completing the immigration formalities, a teacher who had arrived earlier and a volunteer student from Shanghai University of Foreign Studies came to pick me up. He was a very friendly and approachable person. Thanks to the cooperation of this student and the lectures at Shanghai Foreign Studies University, during the week after arriving in Shanghai, I learned a lot of words and communication skills to be able to carry out the basic daily life in China. I learned it incredibly quickly.

Learning in an environment where Chinese is widely spoken has helped me grow significantly. Maybe it was because of the time difference, but I fell asleep around 10pm every day. That's why the first week was so busy and exhausting. But even more than that, it's the fun of learning about a world you don't know about, the fun of seeing yourself grow, the fun of making more friends, and the fun of helping each other overcome difficulties. It was so much fun that I didn't think it was a pain at all.

After the second week, I gradually got used to the environment, and although it was still a bit tiring, I was able to spend my time much more comfortably than the first week, and was able to find time for myself, as the days passed. The fun of taking him with me grew.

At first, I couldn't speak Chinese at all and had difficulty hearing it, so I was full of anxiety, but in just three short weeks, I was able to make amazing progress. Also, by seeing and experiencing different cultures, I was able to think about various things from a broader perspective. This training was a very good experience for me. Many of the things I learned in this training will definitely be useful in my future, so I will do my best to put them to use.

In August of this year, I studied abroad in China for three weeks. I stayed in Shanghai for 2 weeks and in Beijing for 1 week. I would like to express my impressions at that time.

My first impression about China was, ``China is so big.'' When I first arrived at the airport, I was surprised by its size. There are two very large terminals on either side. I arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, which was about twice the size of Kansai International Airport. When I got on the bus and left the airport, I was surprised at the size of the road. There were also 4 or 5 lanes on each side. It looked like there were a lot of cars driving by. There were dozens of large housing complexes, some of which were under construction. I was also surprised to see that the frame of the building under construction was made of bamboo. I was also surprised by the size of the university. While I was in Shanghai, I stayed in a dormitory at the Hongkou Campus of Shanghai Foreign Languages University. I also went to the university's Matsue campus and was surprised at how spacious it was. The library on that campus looked like a European mansion, and it was so far from the entrance that you had to walk a short distance to get there. There were also other Arabic-style halls, and each hall had a set language for learning, such as Arabic only at this hall and Russian only at this hall.

The second thing I thought was that ``China is a very interesting and nice place.'' The reason why it's interesting is because in China, even foreign words are written in kanji. For example, the Chinese word for Burger King is 汉塡王. hanpu means hamburger and 王 means king. For example, foreign words were made into kanji by using kanji with the same meaning and kanji that had the same reading or similar pronunciation. And the reason why I thought it was a good place was because China was free. Before studying abroad, I was a little nervous about studying abroad. All I had ever heard from people around me was that ``China is dangerous'' and ``If you go to China, your things will be stolen.'' However, nothing was stolen while I was in China. The Chinese people were very friendly and kind. It has a lot of individuality, which is one of the reasons I thought it was a great place. Some of the buildings had twisted designs and others had many tiers, and each one had a completely different light at night. Some of them had the words ``Welcome to China'' reflected on them, and it was really fun to see the night view. However, I thought it would be better to be careful with the food I eat. I thought it was necessary to take measures such as not eating raw foods and not drinking water with ice in it. Also, there are many spicy foods, so people who don't like spicy foods should be careful.

Through this study abroad experience, I fell in love with China and wanted to live there. China is a very lively and unique country. Japan doesn't seem to have a very good image of China, but it's a really nice place. If you are interested in China, I highly recommend you go.

The reason I decided to participate in this training is because after studying Chinese for a year, I felt that I was able to understand and speak Chinese, which I didn't understand at all at first, and I wanted to take the next step. is. To be honest, I had no interest in China at all until I started studying Chinese at university. However, I decided to participate because I thought this opportunity would allow me to understand my level of Chinese and utilize it for my future studies.

After it was decided that I would be participating, I studied for the training once every two weeks and held several training briefing sessions, so I had very little anxiety about the training.

Then, we set out on the morning of August 9th. It took about two hours to get from Osaka to Shanghai, and on this day I headed straight to the hotel inside the university.

The next day we took a class placement test, and classes started the day after. I took classes with Italian students from 8:30 to 12 every morning. Classes were mainly conducted in Chinese, with difficult parts supplemented with 365体育官网. It was very stimulating and different from the Japanese classes I usually take at university. I was also able to take classes with Italian students and was able to experience many cultures. A lot of Italian students spoke to us in 365体育官网, which was really fun. After participating in this training, I realized that I need to work harder on my Chinese and 365体育官网.

Next, when I went to China for the first time, the thing that I felt was the most different from Japan was electronic payment. In recent years, electronic payments using smartphones have become popular in Japan, but in China, most people were already using smartphones to pay their bills. However, while it is convenient, I found it inconvenient as some stores only allow purchases through electronic payment, making it difficult for foreign travelers like us who do not have Chinese bank accounts to make purchases. All we had was cash, but we often didn't have change. It's great that it's convenient, but I think it would be nice to have a more foreign-friendly environment.

Finally, I would like to say that it was a great three weeks for me as I participated in this training and met many people and had a very meaningful time. I would like to make use of this experience and use it as fuel for my future language studies.

We spent two weeks at Shanghai University of Foreign Studies in Shanghai, China, and then spent a week in Beijing touring tourist spots such as the Great Wall of China and Tiananmen Square, as well as the headquarters of the Confucius Institute. I will mainly write about the events in Shanghai during the first two weeks of the past three weeks.

In Shanghai, classes were held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 every day, so activities started early every day. Classes were held in a mix of Chinese and 365体育官网, and the content was mainly focused on speaking. In addition to us Japanese students, there were also high school students from Italy in the class. I'm not the type to talk to myself much, so it was difficult for me to take classes at first, but when an Italian student sat next to me, he asked me questions and asked me to go to lunch with him, and I started talking to him. When I was there, a lot of kids gathered around and I found it fun to have conversations with them. At night, we had fun with the Italian kids as they taught us a card game called Napoli Cards, and the night before we said goodbye, we didn't sleep at all and talked nonsense and had fun talking about our own complicated stories. is. Through these experiences, I became able to talk to people I had never spoken to before, and when I took a taxi, I spoke to the driver in Chinese and asked him to tell me about popular restaurants and hidden gems. The Chinese teacher who taught the class was very interesting and kind, and I was able to actively talk to him in Chinese. After class, I even played a soccer game with the locals on the field. By interacting with and talking to many people in this way, I was able to change my image of Chinese people as unfriendly.

Because of these events that took place in Shanghai over the past two weeks, I was able to relax and enjoy my third week in Beijing. After talking to the hotel security guard, we became good friends and played billiards and talked until late at night. The security guard said he was coming to Japan for a trip and could only speak Chinese, so I promised to be his guide and exchanged contact information.

During this training, I talked and interacted with many people, which made me want to study more foreign languages and be able to speak them more freely. I felt motivated to learn for future classes and the Chinese language test.
